YoNaturals: Healthy Eating at Work
July 7, 2008
If you’re like many people, you may find yourself stuck at a desk for most of the day surrounded by food options that might be tasty, but also loaded with sugar, fat and calories. Doughnuts in the break room, pizza ordered in for lunch or a trip to your favorite restaurant with a client. Then there are endless snacking temptations in the vending machine around the corner from your office or the open candy dishes on every other desk on your floor (if you don’t have a YoNaturals at work of course). It’s definitely a challenge to maintain a healthy weight with so many tempting choices all around. Try these helpful tips to stay full on healthy foods and snacks and maintain your weight even in an unsupportive environment.
•Eat before you get to work
Eating a breakfast with fiber, protein, and even a little healthy fat will allow you to face those early morning doughnuts with a different attitude. You’ll avoid the sugar crash and stay full enough to better plan for your midmorning snacks. Breakfast doesn’t happen automatically though. Make sure you have the time, and the food available, to get a healthy start to your day. Set your alarm for fifteen minutes earlier or have your breakfast foods in one place in the refrigerator, ready to go.

•Take snacks with you
There’s nothing worse than standing in front of the vending machine trying to choose the lesser of two evils when it comes to snack food. It’s too easy to just decide to get whatever you like and try to make a better decision another day. Plan ahead though and you can have the best of both worlds: delicious snacks with no anxiety about whether or not it’s good for you. Keep your desk stocked with nonperishable snack items and keep fruit on your desk instead of candy, it’s just as easy to grab and go and it’s immensely more filling.

Bananas, Clementine oranges, or nectarines
•Plan your lunches
It’s easy to think of lunch as a time to splurge if you’re going out to eat, but everyday splurges add up. Pack a healthy lunch every day and eat it even if you’re planning to go out with colleagues or clients to eat. You’ll be full enough to eat something light once you get to the restaurant. Plan ahead by looking at the menu online and making your decisions before you get there. You won’t have to look at a menu while you’re there and try to make healthy choices on a moment’s notice.
